Then God addressed Adam. ‘Since you listened to your wife and disobeyed, the ground is cursed. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles, though you will eat of its grains. By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you die. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.’ Mans relationship with nature, or for the ground from which he came, is disrupted. Mans hardship will be in the effort now required to make a living. The ground, even the wildlife will not cooperate in mans life, as they did in the Garden. Sin caused a change in the character of the ground as well as in animals. |
